Our Solution
Genuine Justice Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Atlanta that aims to strengthen trust among the public, the judicial system, and private industries. We focus on presenting statistics and personal stories that highlight the common occurrence of individuals being exploited by flaws in the justice system.
Our solution to address this issue is to provide compensation to defendants who were charged with a crime and later had their case dismissed, through Georgia Senate Bill 244, also known as the Wrongful Conviction and Incarceration Compensation Act. Governor Brian Kemp signed this bill on May 14, 2025. Currently, it only provides compensation to defendants who were charged, had their cases dismissed, and successfully filed a motion to disqualify the prosecuting attorney from their case due to improper conduct.
We need your help to improve this bill. Genuine Justice is advocating for an amendment that would entitle compensation to every defendant who was charged with a crime, arrested, and later had their case dismissed. Expanding the bill in this way would not only help thousands of innocent taxpayers, but it would also demonstrate that the American justice system is as accountable for its mistakes as the individuals it serves.
